Sled dogs have been around for generations. Their practical use is undeniable when making reference to the diphtheria outbreak that could have wiped out the population of Alaska in 1925. When no other means of winter travel was possible , dog sled teams rallied to transport the serum up to 1,100 kilometers in six days in order to reach Nome.
In the 1800s, prior to the ski-doo we know now, sled dogs were commonly used for hauling, trading and transporting. Whatever needed to be moved, was moved by dog sled. We now live in a more modernized world and no longer are limited by means of travel; yet the sled dog community remains passionate for their intent and purpose.
